Acoura offer food labelling insight on BBC 5 Live
4 August, 2015
Special Advisor to the Acoura Board, Dr Lisa Ackerley, appeared on yesterday’s BBC Radio 5 Live afternoon show to discuss food waste and the importance of labelling.
The show focused on The Real Junk Food Project, a charitable venture which prepares dishes using food past its supermarket best before date.
Supported by Morrison’s and run by volunteers, the project aims to help reduce unnecessary food waste while providing customers by using ingredients which would probably have been discarded. In addition to this, those dining in the café need only pay what they can afford for their meal.
Joining presenter Adrian Chiles, Dr Ackerley provides insight into the differences between best before and use by dates as well as the importance of food safety and danger of ignoring labelling information.
