1 February, 2017
The British Meat Processors Association (BMPA) have announced a link up with industry leading food safety and certification providers Acoura in a move which will give their Pork Scheme members a wider choice of audit providers and increased range of combined services.
The BMPA are the UK’s leading trade association in the meat processing sector with members coming from a wide range of abattoirs, cutting plants and large processors.
In addition to representing their members’ interests, the BMPA also own the BMPA Pork Scheme. The scheme covers pork, bacon, sausages, ham and cooked pork with audits examining several elements such as pig welfare, manufacturing practices food quality and safety.
Under this arrangement, Acoura will now be able to offer audits for the BMPA Pork Scheme.
Tim Bailey, Acoura’s Managing Director for Agriculture and Food Processing said of the move:
“Our members have been asking us for audits for the BMPA’s Pork Schemes for several years and I’m delighted that we will be able to provide them with the service they require. We’ll be offering BMPA audits alongside other complementary services such as BRC, organic certification and retailer bolt-ons with a view to combining them into one inspection service wherever possible.
“Additionally, we aim to work in partnership with the BMPA to help raise awareness and promote the standard to new members and the wider industry.”
Acoura, part of the Lloyd’s Register Group, have been operating in the food and beverage sector for over 25 years. They currently work with over 1,200 UK food processors and offer a wide range of inspection, training and advisory services across the entire food and drink supply chain.
Henrietta Sameke, Technical Policy Advisor at the BMPA said:
“We’re looking forward to working with Acoura and believe that their wide range of combined audit services, technical expertise and full UK coverage will be of benefit to both our existing and future members.
“The BMPA have plans to grow our quality assurance membership and strengthen the brand over the coming year, and through partnering with another specialist in our sector we hope to bring the benefits of our schemes to a wider audience.”
Longstanding BMPA audit provider SAI Global will continue in their current role as a valued service provider, with Acoura’s appointment being made in response to feedback from BMPA scheme participants asking for a wider choice of service providers.
