PSN issue Legionella Briefing Note

23 May, 2014

Perry Scott Nash issues Briefing note on the updated guidance on Legionnaires' disease.

On 15 November 2013, the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) known as L8 Legionnaires' disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems: ACOP and guidance was superseded by a new edition. In addition, a revised guidance note HSG274 was also issued by the HSE at the beginning of May, of which Part 2 (The control of Legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems) is most relevant to commercial premises.

The new guidance places much emphasis on ‘Sustained Compliance’, which requires duty holders to:

  • take ownership
  • manage risk
  • follow the law
  • maintain good practice

This document provides a summary of the guidance provided in Part 2 of HSG274, which now applies to all businesses.
