Woodland Carbon Code
Membership Details for the Woodland Carbon Code
The Woodland Carbon Code, launched in July 2011 by the Forestry Commission, provides a consistent national approach for tree planting projects designed to combat climate change.
As trees grow, atmospheric carbon dioxide is captured and stored, with oxygen simultaneously released. This process acts to counteract harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
The Woodland Carbon Code provides assurance to both individuals and businesses investing in this method of climate mitigation that the planting projects will deliver the carbon savings they claim. In addition, investors are able to report the carbon savings made from UK woodland creation where a project meets the requirements of the code.
Being validated to Woodland Carbon Code standards by Acoura Certification comes with a number of benefits.
Benefits can include:
- Provides a potential new income stream for landowners
- Provides assurance to investors in carbon capture projects
- Practical year-round technical guidance from Acoura’s staff
Inspection for the scheme covers a number of different areas included in the Woodland Carbon Code standards and applicants will be expected to adhere to all the relevant criteria before they can be classed as validated and subsequently verified.
