Membership Details for QMS Auction Markets Assurance Scheme

The QMS Auction Markets Assurance Scheme was established to help complete the QMS assurance chain. Involving all key livestock markets throughout Scotland this chain links all relevant sectors of the Scottish livestock industry from farmer to processor.

Being a member of the QMS Auction Markets scheme has a number of benefits.

Benefits can include:

  • Allows trading of QMS assured livestock
  • Encourages good animal welfare standards
  • Gives processors and consumers greater confidence in product quality

Auction marts play an important role in the marketing of farm assured livestock. Scheme standards have been developed to allow markets to work alongside existing Codes of Practice and reduce the handling and stress that animals face.

Marts are assessed on a number of different criteria. Areas of assessment include animal welfare, handling, penning, feeding and general standard of facilities. 

While membership of the scheme is voluntary, auction markets involved must demonstrate strict adherence to the scheme standards which are monitored independently by Acoura.
