Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) Assurance Scheme - Pigs
Membership details for the QMS Pigs Assurance Scheme.
The Quality Meat Scotland Pigs Assurance Scheme was set up in 1990 to provide the industry and consumers with total assurance that animals, produced for the food chain, are reared to a stringent set of standards covering all aspects of animal welfare, food safety and general good practice.
Being an assured member of the QMS Pigs Scheme has a number of benefits.
Benefits can include:
- Opportunity to sell pigs to wider market
- Encourages better farming practices and higher animal welfare standards
- Gives processors and consumers greater confidence in product quality
- Where possible Acoura will try to combine audits
Developed by industry experts specifically for pig farmers, the standard is thorough and covers everything from traceability to animal health and environmental care. Today, almost all pigs reared in Scotland come from farms which are members of the QMS Pigs Assurance Scheme.
